One year ago, I set out to raise $3000 for the Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition as part of my own first running of the Falmouth Road Race. With the generous help of tremendous friends and family, over $9,000 was raised for such an amazing cause that for sure has affected all of us in some way. Given the present economic times, I am not certain that I can reach the amount raised last year, but I am hoping to raise $5000. Like last year, I will be running with the spirits of my dearest brothers, Kevin and Daniel, whom I lost to suicide in 1985 and 1996 respectively. It is estimated that a suicide attempt occurs every minute of every day in the United States. That’s over 34,000 lives are lost each year. Statistically, the Cape is affected more so than other parts of the Commonwealth. Once again, it is my hope to turn my own personal and profoundly negative experience into a positive one for those who suffer with thoughts of suicide. This August, I am joining a team of runners to help support the Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition during the running of the Falmouth Road Race. I’m inviting you to please join me in helping to reach my goal of raising $5000.00 for this important organization. Pledge as much as you can, every little bit will help.
