Hi Everyone:
I am happy to report that Marathon #11 (and 5th consecutive Boston Marathon) is in the books. This one HURT! I realized in Framingham (about 1/4 through the race) that my socks were not the best choice - so I spent the better part of the race with blisters forming under calluses. Ouch! Other than "fiery" (if not the fleetest) feet, I finished in a reasonable time of 4 hours, 8 minutes and 33 seconds - I'll take it!
The weather was perfect and we even had a tailwind for the better part of the race.
Once again, I am proud to have run on behalf of the Pine Street Inn and the thousands of guests they feed, house, and educate on an annual basis. Greater Boston's homeless and hungry populations have never needed these services more; and, while the economy has taken its toll on everyone to a certain degree, most of us are still very fortunate to enjoy the basics of shelter and food.
I dedicated this year's effort to the newly homeless and the struggling families who have been truly devastated by the recent recession, and who are not too far removed from the lives we are each still lucky enough to lead. Through great organizations like the Pine Street Inn, the dignity, self-confidence, and self-reliance of almost anyone can be restored in a respectful and sustainable way.
THANK YOU to my recent and former donors and to those sharing words of support along this incredible journey. Your moral support and financial generosity have been a blessing for me and for the many guests of Pine Street Inn.
As I hoped, I was able to cross the Finish Line and did so with a renewed sense of pride and purpose of effort.
Until June 30th, you can make a secure, online donation to Pine Street Inn directly on this site, or you can mail a personal check, made out to "Pine Street Inn" to me directly. Please add "Paul Joseph 2010 Boston Marathon" in the NOTE of your check.
Also, please remember to do what you can, whenever you can, to help someone who is hungry or homeless.
Thank you!
