Jake's Journey
Hi Everybody!! It’s me, Jake. It’s that time of year again! I am getting ready to walk in my second “Walk-n-Roll” to Cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy on June 25th in Philadelphia, PA. As most of you know I was diagnosed with SMA last year. Spinal Muscular Atrophy is the number one genetic killer of children under the age of two. It affects the nerves controlling movement and respiration. There is no treatment or cure for SMA; however, there is HOPE! Spinal Muscular Atrophy prevents me from doing some of the things a typical three year old can do but I refuse to let it stop me! I started preschool this year along with my twin sister Rachel and we are having a blast!
Mommy and Daddy say doctors and researchers are working real hard to find a cure for SMA and that we need to raise awareness and money so that we can help to put an end to this disease. So, I was wondering if you could help all my friends and me with SMA. Last year’s “Walk and Roll” was a huge success. I am hoping that with your help we can make this year’s event even more successful. It would be great if you could come and walk with me on June 25th too! If you would like to sponsor me you can do so through this site. It is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. If you prefer to write a check you can make it payable to Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy – PA Chapter and mail it to my home address. I will make sure to bring it with me on the day of the walk.
One last thing, sometimes my Mommy gets e-mails that you have to forward to people for good luck. I was thinking that maybe we could do that with this web page. Forward it to everyone you know! Let’s spread the word about Spinal Muscular Atrophy and get as many people as we can to be part of the cure!
