Welcome to the Peak City Gala of Hope's fundraising page! Let us introduce ourselves!

Who: We are three Apex High School seniors each who have been affected by cancer in our own ways.

Katie Godfrey, 17, daughter of David and Elizabeth Godfrey, has been a resident of Apex her entire life and has been active in different areas of service and mission throughout the community. She plans to major in Business and Pre-Law, hoping to one day run her own non-profit focused on work with troubled youth and the homeless of the Raleigh-Durham area. Katie dedicates her commitment to this event in memory of her grandmother, Mary Bals.

Megan Gravley, 17, daughter of Jeff and Mary Gravley, has been an involved student at Apex High School through programs such as DECA, Apex Youth Leadership, AOIT, NHS, NTHS, and the varsity volleyball team. She will major in Communications or English at Elon University where she will also play volleyball. Megan dedicates her commitment to this event in honor of her mother, Mary Gravley.

Sydney Snedeker, 18, daughter of Sean and Mary Jane Snedeker, is involved in numerous clubs and organizations at Apex High, participates in various community service projects, and is currently an intern at the North Carolina Museum of Art. She plans to double major in Public Relations and Music Business, and hopes to plan non-profit events like this in the future. Sydney dedicates her commitment to this event in memory of her close friend, Garrett Maliska.

What: The Peak City Gala of Hope: A Night Benefitting the Jimmy V Foundation

The Jimmy V Foundation focuses on hope. With each donation, we are one step closer to our goal of raising $10,000 toward the the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. If you are unfamiliar with the Jimmy V Foundation, it was established by the late Jim Valvano, NC State basketball coach, who lost his fight to cancer in 1993 but created this organization to help others find the cure and win the fight that he could not.

The night will be a time to both reflect on those who have lost the fight and celebrate those who have won the fight against cancer. You will have the opportunity to hear from several speakers and enjoy heavy hors d'ouerves, auctions, and a few door prizes. In order to more accurately understand the impact and capture the idea of "community", you will be surrounded by Apex's most elite professionals and those who have dedicated their lives to serving this town. Youth are an important part of this community, also, and will therefore be volunteering at the Peak City Gala of Hope.

We are legitimately backed by the Jimmy V Foundation. All of the donations made through this website will go directly to this organization. We are also partnered with the Apex Rotary Foundation, Apex High School, and Apex High School DECA.

Where: Peak United Methodist Church (1200 N. Salem Street, Apex, NC  27502)

When: January 22, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Why: Cancer affects people of all ages and walks of life; if this disease doesn't limit its boundaries, neither will we. We know the hesitations you experience when donating to an event run by three eighteen year old girls, but we assure you that the Peak City Gala of Hope is one that will be highly respected by the significant contribution that we hope to make. We hope that our young age is not seen as a limitation, but an inspiration to all who participate alongside us.

Love, Katie Godfrey, Megan Gravley, and Sydney Snedeker
