Peggy Okuneff's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
As many of you know, after many years of training hard and running marathons, I had to quit my running career. However, I have decided to walk a half marathon while raising money for a great and worthy cause.
I have decided to dedicate this walk to 2 very special people in my life. My brother-in-law Warren Roston, who fought and beat Stage IV metastatic melanoma and my cousin Noreen Fraser. Noreen is a breast cancer survivor living with Stage IV breast cancer. She is a co-creator and co-producer of the 2008 STAND UP TO CANCER that raised over $100 million for cancer research. Noreen tirelessly volunteers her time to raising money for cancer research through her foundation called Men for Women Now. Both Warren and Noreen went through some very rough times and I am so grateful to have them both with us!
After finishing my 2nd clinical rotation last semester at Nashville General Hospital, I realized how cancer affects not only the patient but their families as well. Without adequate insurance, support and resources, a devastating diagnosis becomes unthinkable. Many patients have to deal with cancer alone, either because they have no close relatives or their family can't handle the diagnosis. Gilda's Club in Nashville has a local club which is a haven for cancer patients and their families. It helps pay for all the books, support groups, classes and activities offered there.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! The deadline for donating is March 20, just a few weeks before my walk. Please make a donation through my web page at www.GildasClubNashville.org or by check (made payable to Gilda's Club Nashville).
Thank you and I am so grateful to each and every one of you!! Best and good health.
