WaterAid Endurance Ride on Mt. Tamalpais

WaterAid Endurance Ride on Mt. Tamalpais

Hello,

This is the WaterAid Endurance Ride fundraiser and ride info page! Please come mountain bike with us on November 8, 2008 at 8 a.m. at Piccolo Park in Corte Madera (at Redwood / Corte Madera Ave). To support WaterAid America, you can make a donation of $100 (or more or less) right here through Firstgiving. Your contribution goes to a great cause. Some examples are at the bottom of this message. Thank you!

I will provide everyone with a map before we ride and we will have riders marking the route with arrows along the way. Below are the routes with SAG stops noted.

Routes:

NOTE: Both routes start at Piccolo park in old Corte Madera, then all riders go up Chapman Dr. TO Camino Alto TO the beginning of Middle Summit trail (with the pump house at the junction) DOWN Sarah Dr. TO Linda Vista Dr. TO Buena Vista Ave. (left) past Mill Valley golf course TO W. Blithedale (right) TO Railroad Grade. From there the options will be:

1. Hard and Beautiful: (about 24 miles): Railroad Grade TO cutoff up to Blithedale Ridge TO Indian Rd. (left) TO Eldridge TO E. Ridgecrest Blvd (top of Eldridge) TO Railroad TO West Point Inn TO Old Stage Rd. TO Pantoll (TAKE A SAG BREAK AND PUT ON JACKET IF NEEDED BEFORE THE COASTAL DESCENT) TO Coastal TO Hwy 1 (TAKE A SAG BREAK, AND CATCH THE SAG BACK TO PICCOLO PARK IF YOU WANT) TO Pelican Inn/Muir Beach TO Zen Farm/Middle Green Gulch TO Coyote TO Miwok TO top of Tennessee Valley Rd. TO Bicentennial Bike path in Mill Valley TO bike trail along Lomita TO Vasco (left) TO Underhill (right) TO Coach TO fire road up over the hill TO Sausalito St. (down) TO Tamalpais (right) TO Piccolo Park. Done!

2. Easier and Beautiful: (about 15 miles): Railroad Grade TO West Point Inn TO Old Stage Rd. TO Pantoll Ranger Station (TAKE A SAG BREAK AND PUT ON JACKET IF NEEDED BEFORE THE COASTAL DESCENT) TO Coastal TO Hwy 1. SAG vehicles will be waiting in the parking area across Hwy 1 to take riders back to Corte Madera. Done!

Please be prepared to be self sufficient on the ride. Carry a phone, extra tube (or two), a way to pump it up, water, food (if you think you may need it between the SAG stops), and clothing layers. It could easily be 70 and sunny on the east side of Tam and 50 and foggy on the coast.

WaterAid (www.wateraid.org/usa/) supports water and sanitation-related infrastructure projects in developing countries. Here are some statistics that might help to guide your donation:

* $30 trains a mason to build latrines in Nepal.
* $50 pays for tools for a hand-dug well in Ghana.
* $120 buys a rope pump in Uganda.
* $360 pays for a borehole and a handpump to serve 15 families in Bangladesh.
* $700 pays for an improved hand-dug well in Salima, Malawi fitted with a Malda direct action handpump.
* $3000 pays for a 40 foot hand-dug well fitted with a handpump that provides water for 250-300 people.

Please spread the word about WaterAid and the ride. Let me know if you hear of other participants so we can plan for refreshments, shuttles, etc. This will be fun. Thank you for your support and participation!
