I can't believe that it has been 6 years since I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It was one day before my 9th birthday that everything changed for me. Fortunately I found the Diabetic Youth Foundation and Bearskin Meadow Camp. The DYF has helped to make these past 6 years, and living with diabetes, seem just a little bit easier. At camp I can be "normal", not "that girl with diabetes". This past summer I was able to attend Teen Camp at Bearskin and was part of the the "OC" or the outdoor cooking group. I made some awesome friends and learned alot of valuable stuff about taking care of myself and managing this very difficult disease everyday. My entire family has benefitted from the "Bearskin Magic" and we all look forward to that drive up to the meadow every summer.
Many good things come from the Diabetic Youth Foundation. On May 1, 2011 my family and I will be participating in the "Families in the Forest" fundraising event for the DYF. They need your donations in order to offer wonderful programs that help so many kids with Type 1 Diabetes and their families. Please consider making a donation to the DYF in support of me and many other children affected by Type 1 Diabetes. I'd love to see you join my walk team, if you can, and help in this fund raising effort!
Thanks!
Love,
Allie
