ARRRRGH you ready?
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! If you have any questions or want to contact me you can do so by emailing me @ greenwinglover@yahoo.com
My name is Nicole and I have the honor of knowing a very special person in my life who has Rett syndrome. I have been friends and working with Annie for over 4 years and I don't know what I would do without her in my life! I love the days that I get to spend with Annie and the fun times that we share! Annie was diagnosed with Rett syndrome at the age of 8 and is now 23 years old. I not only want to raise money to help support funding and research for a cure for Rett syndrome but I want to bring awareness to this awful disease!
Please consider joining my team for the day SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 30th, 2012 @ 10am (registration at 10am) of the strollathon or being a CAPTAIN! :) Can you compete with my goal I set for fundraising?
What is Rett syndrome?
Rett syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder of the grey matter of the brain that almost exclusively affects females. The clinical features include small hands and feet and a deceleration of the rate of head growth (including microcephaly in some). Repetitive hand movements, such as wringing and/or repeatedly putting hands into the mouth, are also noted. People with Rett syndrome are prone to gastrointestinal disorders and up to 80% have seizures. They typically have no verbal skills, and about 50% of individuals affected are not ambulatory. Scoliosis, growth failure, and constipation are very common and can be problematic. The signs of this disorder are most easily confused with those of Angelman syndrome, cerebral palsy and autism.
IRSF funded research has discovered that Rett Syndrome is reversible in mice. Now, we're ardently pursuing these results in humans! With clinical trials for treatment on the horizon, fundraising is more crucial than ever - we're making great strides!
I have set a personal goal of raising $10,000 to go to IRSF (International Rett Syndrome Foundation.) I know it is a large goal but I am confident with the help, love, and support of family and friends I can reach this goal and help get that much closer to finding a cure for Rett Syndrome.
