Going swimming on New Year's Day in potentially frigid New England weather is sort of a ridiculous thing to do...for just plain old fun. At my age (perhaps any age) it's hardly justified by even my basic immatuirty....but having a cause like Special Olympics puts it right side up for me. I first went in sometime around 1980 or so and in 1981 Special Olympics became my favorite charity when my nephew David was born. David was a lifelong special olympian who participated in a multitude of sports including horseback riding and swimming. Today I've had the pleasue of knowing so many special olympians over the years, including one (Josh) who works for my company, and Z-man, both of whom call me regulalry. I am privileged to be their friends.
I haven't plunged every year since 1981 but have probably plunged around 25 times. And every time..............., it's extremely cold and uncomfortable...but not dangerous. So don't worry about me...I have plenty of life insurance. Put your money toward something that's truly worthwhile and make a nice large donation....You may be too old to rock 'n roll, but never too old to plunge or support this cause
