Hello Everyone!

As the Outreach Director for Community Rowing Inc., I oversee a team of AMAZING girls called G-ROW Boston.  These girls all attend Boston Public Schools and come to the boathouse every day after school to learn to row and get ready for college!  In the Fall and Spring, they train really hard on the water to race against all of the other public schools in Massachusetts.  In the winter, they train on indoor rowing machines (ergs) and focus on their studies.  Their coaches, Leigh and Alice, do a really awesome job by challenging them every day, teaching them to trust and support each other, and realize that they are only limited by their own beliefs about what they can and cannot do. Through G-Row, the girls develop healthy and active lifestyles, and they make empowering decisions about their body, health, and future.

Every winter, the girls raise money to go on a training trip somewhere warm and exciting.  This year, we are going across the country to San Diego, California!  They will train hard every day and visit colleges they would not otherwise have the opportunity to see.  We will go to UCLA, USC, UC-San Diego, and San Diego State.  The girls will also get to see The Getty Museum, Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo!  For some of these girls, this is the first time they will be on an airplane or see the sun set over the Pacific Ocean.  

This is a really amazing experience that the girls, literally, work extremely hard to make happen.  On January 30th, the 6th Annual Ergathon will take place at the Prudential Center in Boston.  Each girl on the team will row roughly 5000 meters on rowing machines, contributing to a team goal of 150,000 meters.  Your donations will make a big difference in the lives of these girls by providing them with a wonderful opportunity to grow as a team and see California.
