I am doing this for two reasons:

1)      This is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics and I support athletics in all forms especially the Special Olympics and know several participants that look forward to competing all year.  They train, compete, make new friends and have a great time.

2)      The other reason is that I have joined with some other Scout Leaders to do this activity as an object lesson for our Scouts.  We ask them to make a difference. To fund raise and do service projects etc and we want to show them that we adults do these things too and that a small sacrifice i.e. jumping into a freezing cold lake in January can make a big difference for someone else.
