Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network(BCAN)! As many of you know my mom was diagnosed with bladder cancer on July 9th, 2009. When she was first diagnosed, we were given very little information regarding causes, treatment options, and rates of survival. Finding BCAN was the best thing that happened to us! From information gained through BCAN, we were able to educate ourselves and become a smarter patient, making informed treatment decisions that were best for mom.
- In 2009, it is estimated that almost 71,000 new cases of bladder cancer will be diagnosed and over 14,000 people will die from the disease.
- Bladder cancer is the 5th most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S. - 4th among men (after prostate, lung and colon) and 11th among women.
- There are over 500,000 bladder cancer survivors in the U.S.
BCAN’s mission is to increase public awareness about bladder cancer; to advance bladder cancer research; and to provide educational and support services for the bladder cancer community. BCAN is a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and contributions made to BCAN are tax-deductible.
In April, I will be running the American River 50 Mile Endurance Run, while bringing attention to bladder cancer. I'll be wearing a bright orange t-shirt(the color signifing bladder cancer awareness). The front of the shirt says "Cancer Sucks!" and the back says "Bladder Cancer Pisses Me Off!".
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
