2007 World Games - Frank Raguso
Frank has been a Special Olympic athlete for 6 years, and has traveled to the World Games once before to play floor hockey in Nagano, Japan. Being involved in Special Olympics has built his self-esteem, given him more confidence and has helped him to improve his social skills. He says that attending the World Games is an honor because he can represent his country, which he takes very seriously. He is also looking forward to meeting great athletes from different countries, making new friends, and demonstrating good sportsmanship. One of his greatest accomplishments was winning the gold medal the last time he attended the World Games. Another achievement is that he passed the State Regents Competency exams to receive a "local diploma." He received the American Dreamer Award in 2005, the Student Advocacy Award for ovrecoming the odds and succeeding in school, a Career Technician Educational Certificate, two Superintendent's Recognition Certificates, and a Shining "Star" Award from Irvington High School. Frank also startedhis first job as a bakery clerk at A&P. He enjoys softball, floor hockey, basketball, playing video games and using the computer.
