2007 World Games - Kevin Brown
Kevin has attended the World Games an outstanding four times. In 1989 he competed in Nordic Skiing in Lake Tahoe, NV, in 1991 he played Unified Volleyball in Minneapolis, MN, in 2001 he again competed in Nordic skiing in Alaska and in 2003 he ran in the Law Enforcement "Final Leg" in Dublin, Ireland. In his 32 years as an athlete he has participated in athletics, bowling, Nordic skiing, volleyball, and softball. For the past 11 years Kevin has worked in the U.S. Department of Justice where he receives all incoming mail and after checking the safety of it's contents, he distributes it to the staff. He is very proud of the studying that he did to to pass the Clerical Support Battery Test to get his job at the U.S. Department of Justice. He is also proud of his attendance at Literacy Volunteers while working as a custodian. He learned that although it may take longer, he could accomplish what he put his mind to. Special Olympics has allowed him to meet many new friends and and he is now a Global Messenger so that he can show people how capable he is. The World Games means that his team has risen to the top of their abilities in volleyball and that all of his team's training and year-round pracitices have paid off. He was selected as Athlete of the Year in 1989 out of nearly 30,000 athletes, Albany County, NY Athlete of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, and was fortunate to be nominated for the Law Enforcement Torch Run "Final Leg" where he carried the Flame of Hope in Athens, Greece, and through Europe to Dublin. He really respects and appreciates the friendships that he has made with Law Enforcement officers from all over the world. In his free time Kevin enjoys e-mailing jokes, taking care of lawns and helping his friends.
