Faithful Friends is launching an exciting new program but we can't do it without your help! The Pit Stop is a community outreach project I am helping to launch that targets the American Pit Bull Terrier and mixed breeds. Pit Bulls are wonderful animals who make great pets, yet they are grossly mistreated and misunderstood. They are often forced to fight other dogs for entertainment or abandoned out of fear of being too dangerous. These dogs are not given proper medical care for their injuries and are allowed to breed recklessly, contributing to the already overwhelming population of homeless animals. Approximately 80% of the Pit Bulls rescued by the local SPCA were euthanized in the past year. Our program is meant to reach out to the local community with education and medical services for the Pit Bulls (and other homeless animals) as well as training for dog owners. Our hope is the program will help to prevent the mistreatment of Pit Bulls, and provide greater understanding of the breed so that we can find good caring homes for the many homeless dogs in the Wilmington area.
