The mission of College Mentors for Kids is to motivate at-risk children and communities to achieve their potential by fostering: Inspiration to transform lives Education to change attitudes Connections to increase opportunities College Mentors for Kids fulfills a fundamental societal need. In the United States, one in every six children lives in poverty. Only 6 percent of at-risk youth successfully complete a four-year degree. The U.S. Census cites that only 23 percent of Americans hold a bachelor's degree or higher degree and 21 percent drop out of high school. Such statistics demonstrate the need of the College Mentors for Kids Mentor Program in our country. Additionally there is a gap in youth services for 1st-4th grade children as most youth service organizations serve children who are 10 years old or older. College Mentors for Kids is not a recreational mentoring program. College Mentors for Kids exposes at-risk youth to three focused areas: community service, culture and diversity, and higher education through hands-on activities that are all site-based on a college campus.
