Sandra Todd's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting our personal fundraising page that we have created in honor of our mom.
Sandy's life was one of physical struggles throughout much of her life. Early in her thirties, she went completely blind. A mystery to doctors at the time. Her vision slowly came back, but never quite the same in her right eye. A bit later in life, it happened again and the term "optic neuritis" was the best explanation. Lupus was not suspected as the culprit until many, many years later as diagnosis and research progressed in the fight against this disease.
As she aged, her body began to hurt and if she pushed herself too hard, we would see her fatigue and have more days of "I'm just hurting too much" ahead. Unfortunately she was striken with spinal menengitis which left her deaf in one ear and a weakened heart. Looking back, having lupus probably weakened her immune system so that the menengitis could take hold at that point.
In the last 8 years of her life, she developed transverse myelitis which left her in much pain from the breastbone down into the lower back and legs. This apparently is a common symptom of lupus where the nerves are damaged in these body parts and it can leave the person in tremendous chronic pain.
Sandy passed away on May 19, 2008 from congestive heart failure. It was sudden thankfully especially after all the pain she endured throughout so much of her life. We believe that with generous donations to this organization, lupus, and all immune disorders for that matter can be eradicated! Thank you for your donation which we are sure will be one step closer to a cure so that others will not have to suffer as our mom did.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts in memory of our mom.
Many thanks for your support to this amazing cause!
Love, Rob & Cindy
