Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.
The Jacaranda School, in Malawi, offers free education to children who are orphans due to AIDS. The school needs textbooks, desks, bathrooms and other essentials. We want to provide the Jacaranda School with these basic school necessities. The students at The Jacaranda School are eager to learn but long for the opportunity.

The biggest single donation was also credited to our account today, 23720 RMB, approximately $3450. Dr. Hundley, from the Performing Arts Center at Shanghai American School kindly donated the ticket sales from a recent Chinese Traditional Dance concert, Fragrance. WOW!! We thank you and so do the children at The Jacaranda School. This has truly been a wonderful day for the Jacaranda School.

April 10:
A huge thank you to everyone that has donated so far but a special thanks to those that honored my birthday by donating. What a special birthday gift and no other would have made me happier.
The rainy season has ended and the construction on the bathrooms has begun. The project started on Saturday April 4th, the same day Marie Da Silva was speaking at Harvard. I was fortunate to be in attendance that afternoon and am now convinced more than ever that The Jacaranda School is the project that I want to be associated with. Thank you Marie!
The bathroom construction will be in 2 phases with Phase 1 being the secondary school. The foundation is finished and work has started on the exterior walls. The project should be completed before we arrive. Phase 2, will be the bathrooms for the primary school and that will begin in early June. We will arrive on June 18th just in time to help with the building. The Shanghai American School students and The Jacaranda School students will spend a day working together on the site. This will be a fantastic team effort.
We will also do some community service work with the Jacaranda students so that they have a chance to give back to their community after receiving so much from people around the world like yourself. Even though the Jacaranda students come from some of the poorest families in the area, they are just a few of the lucky ones that get to attend the Jacaranda School and find that sanctuary behind the school gate. There are so may other children in the area that can only dream of being a student enrolled at the JacarandaSchool and we want to help them also.
Other activities planned for our visit in June will be to assist with either planting or harvesting crops that provide food for the Jacaranda students and to spend time working with the students in their individual classes. There will be plenty of time for games and activities and rumor has it that the Jacaranda students have been rehearing their welcoming presentation for our arrival day, June 18th. I truly hope that this is just the beginning of a lasting relationship between Shanghai AmericanSchool and the JacarandaSchool.
March 14:
It has been almost 3 months since the first donation was made and we have now reached $14,000. Our goal was to hit this target before the construction on the bathrooms begins. The rainy season should end soon and then the construction can begin. Thank You to everyone who has donated from Shanghai American School and around the world. We have truly become one community in this effort and all to benefit the children at the Jacaranda School.
This week, an amazing email was received from Marie Da Silva, the lady who started the Jacaranda School. She will be speaking at the African Forum at Harvard University on April 4th. She writes, "This is exciting for me. I never knew, growing up in Malawi, that some day I would be speaking at Harvard. I feel that education will give the children at the Jacaranda School a chance at a better future. Who knows, maybe one of them will come to Harvard."
Please check back periodically for updates on the construction and to watch us get closer to our final goal. There is still more work to do and we hope you will continue to support us in any way you can.
The students and teachers from Shanghai American School that will travel to Malawi in June are really looking forward to the trip. We will build houses with Habitat for Humanity in Lilongwe and then visit the Jacaranda School. We will see firsthand how your donation has changed the lives of the children at this school.
Check the Jacaranda Foundation's website to find out more about this wonderful organization and Marie Da Silva.
