Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I have joined a wonderful cause, the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation (CFCF), which I describe below. This year I am leading the foundation's Chicago Marathon team. We have put together a great crew of veterans and first-timers. This being my first marathon, I have spent the spring and summer logging the miles in New England in preparation. I Look forward to keeping you posted on my training, the race and the impact your dollars have on funding grants for cutting edge research at leading cancer centers.
This is a terrible disease and the patients need an advocate...I am thrilled that running this marathon and other races can facilitate such a direct impact...thank YOU for your donation--it is greatly appreciated.
Carcinoid
Carcinoid is the term used to refer to tumors that originate in the nerve cells that produce hormones, also known as the neuroendocrine system. Because tumors are slow-growing and release hormones that result in a wide range of symptoms, early diagnosis often does not occur and patients end up suffering longer than they should. Additionally, as an orphan disease affecting a smaller segment of the cancer patient population, carcinoid has not had the benefits of large scale financial investment to date. The bottom line is that this is a disease that needs an advocate and CFCF is the organization that has stepped up or the cause.

CFCF is the leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for carcinoid and related neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), and the only carcinoid and NET Foundation with an international research program. CFCF has given millions of dollars to physicians and scientists who are seeking to understand how this disease develops with the ultimate goal of finding ways to stop its progression.
