On April 19th 2010, I will be taking place in the Boston Marathon running for Team Deloitte to raise money for Brigham and Women's Hospital. This will be my 6th time running the Boston Marathon for Team Deloitte. Our Team Deloitte funds raise money for a very special purpose, to support the Ellen Gabriel Breast Cancer Fund. Ellen was a partner in the Boston office of Deloitte and the Firms' first leader of the Women's Initiative. Ellen lost her battle with breast cancer. Since her passing, our team has raised more than $830,000 to support a Fund set up in her name. All of these funds are used in the local community to provide at-risk women and women in need free screenings. In addition, the funds are used to educate these women about breast cancer and to offer counseling. It goes without saying that this is a great cause.
