Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page.
On April 16, 2012 I will be running the Boston Marathon to benefit the Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE). MFNE is a non-profit organization that (1) educates the publc on the importance of early detection and prevention of melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, and (2) provides support groups and advocacy for melanoma patients.
Melanoma rates are increasing faster than nearly all other cancers. It is estimated that 63,000 cases of melanoma will be diagnosed yearly, with one person dying from skin cancer every hour. The good news is that melanoma is preventable and can be stopped if detected / caught early enough. This is why education and awareness of melanoma is so critical.
Melanoma awareness and support is not only an extremely important casue, it is also a very personal one for me and my family. In 2004, my husband, James, was diagnosed and treated for melanoma. The surgery was a success, and he was cancer free for years. Unfortunately, my husband’s cancer returned in Sept. of 2010, and spread to his lymph system and lungs. He is undergoing some experimental treatment today and responding well so far. So whereas this cause has always been extremely important to me, it has taken on a new sense of urgency.
Unfortunately, cancer touches all of us. I am doing my part to raise awareness of melanoma (and hopefully prevent it) by running the 2012 Boston Marathon to raise money to support the MFNE. Please support me in this effort by making a donation to my run. Every dollar raised will help to prevent this horrible disease from stiking another family.
Note that donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
THANKS AGAIN!
