Today, May 1, 2012 marks the 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY that I received one of the greatest gifts of my life! My Brother, Cory D. Moon (left), made the ultimate sacrifice and donated to me one of his kidneys. By the Grace of God, neither of us has experienced any medical issues or complications.
Sadly, not everyone is BLESSED with their own personal hero. In fact, there are over 3,000 people awaiting kidney transplants in our state and over 8,000 Alabamians on dialysis. This is why Cory and I have teamed up with Honda Manufacturing of Alabama to support The Alabama Kidney Foundation. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
1. DONATE FUND$ to support the Foundation’s assistance programs for kidney patients.
a. 60,000 people died of kidney disease last year. Over 7,000 are living with this disease in Alabama, ranking our state 5th in the nation for its occurrence.
b. This chronic illness is rampant in Alabama, particularly among African-Americans (many at or below poverty level).
c. By participating in the annual Walk-a-Thon, you can raise money for the Foundation’s three programs provided free to Alabama’s kidney patients in need – financial assistance, education and support services.
2. PARTICIPATE in the Alabama Kidney Foundation 2012 Walk-a-thon
a. Saturday, May 5, 2012. Homewood High School’s Waldrop Stadium. 8:30 am Registration - Walk 9:30 am
b. Over 600 individual and team walkers
c. Last year, the Alabama Kidney Foundation provided assistance to thousands of kidney patients in need for daily living needs like medication, high utility bills, handicap equipment, and treatment related transportation. The event also funds the public awareness and patient education programs of the Foundation.
