Rolf Edelman's Fundraising Page
Here we go again....instead of enjoying my summer lounging in a beach chair with an ice cold cocktail, I have decided to torture myself and take on the NYC Marathon this November. In years past, I have taken on this epic endeavour as a personal challenge to myself, but after some soul searching and a strong desire to help my fellow man I will use this years marathon as an oppportunity to give back. Well that, and i was too lazy to run all the qualifying races and not lucky enough to get in thru the lottery. But enough about me....the cause im running for is The Achilles FREEDOM TEAM of Wounded Veterans. The team introduces recently wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan to the sport of running. For all of you that complain about running a couple miles or even 50 ft to the subway, these wounded soldiers are getting out there and competing, even after having sustained severe and life changing injuries. It really puts things in perspective, dosent it? Now for the part youve all been dreading.....please throw a couple tax deductible bucks my way and help me out with the fund raising. Thanks for your support.
Just one Achilles success story....
"1st Lt Melissa Stockwell lost her left leg above the knee when an IED hit her vechile during a convoy she was commanding in Baghdad. She rode a hand crank bike in the NYC marathon with a sign on her back to her fellow soldiers still in Iraq- B Co., 27th MSB, 1st cav. div, Come Home Safely. Her husband, also of the 1st cav div. rode a hand crank bike alongside her to show his support. He finished in 3:01. Melissa finished in 2:55. Melissa attributes he success in part to the hard work of the Achilles track club."
