Ronald McAdams's Fundraising Page

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

In celebration of my 50th Birthday (12/12/09), I am planning to run the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon on May 2, 2010!  Training began on Thanksgiving morning by running the 100th Annual Thanksgiving Day 10K Race in Cincinnati.

I see the training and running of the Marathon as a celebration of life, and wanted to make this a beneficial event as well by raising funds for a worthwhile cause.

I have spent nearly 30 years of my professional life as a chemical/environmental engineer working in the water and wastewater industry.  Lifewater International is therefore a natural fit as my organization to support.  Please browse their website to learn more about this organization's mission, achievements and goals.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

Sincerely,

Ron

Consider:

- Nearly 1 billion people worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water.  That represents over 3 times the entire U.S. population.

- Every 22 seconds a child dies from a preventable water related disease.

- For Lifewater's Uganda projects, every $32 contributed provides one person with lifetime access to safe water as well as hygiene and sanitation education.

- For Lifewater's Ethiopia projects, every $1 contributed, USAID will donate $8.  That is an 8:1 matching gift opportunity!

New!   - "Fast $5" text donations for Lifewater now available on your cell phone.

Text the word:  WASH to the phone number 85944; then reply YES to the confirmation.  Lifewater receives a $5 donation (the donation is reflected in your cell phone bill).

11/01/09:  Many thanks to you early donors!  Your generosity  has gotten the first week of this fundraiser off to a tremendous start!

11/15/09:  We continue to make excellent progress!  Thank you for your support and helping to "spread the word" about our fundraising efforts.

11/29/09:  Training officially began by running of the 100th Annual Thanksgiving Day Race (10K) in Cincinnati.  With over 17,000 participants registered (and several thousand "bum runners") this has become the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the world!  Photo at left is provided courtesy of Brightroom Professional Event Photography.

12/12/09:  Ran the infamous Crosby Township "Reindeer Romp" 10K this morning.  About 20 degrees at race time - awesome!

03/25/10:  After spending weeks of running through the ice and snow, Spring has finally arrived!  Your donations in January were greatly appreciated - it helped provide incentive to make it through the Winter.  The marathon is just over 5 weeks away!  Up to 18 miles as longest run to-date.  Running 30-40 miles/week right now.  Will peak with a 21+ mile run in 2 weeks, then start "tapering" towards the May 2nd Marathon.

03/28/10:  Ran the Cincinnati Heart Fund Mini-Marathon 15K Race (9.3 mi), then after a short break, ran the 5K Race (3.1 mi).  A little rain, but overall a great day!  There were over 14,000 people that participated in all of the walk and race events that day.

04/10/10:  Ran 22.8 miles today for my longest training run (3 laps around outer bike path at Miami Whitewater Forest).  Perfect day for running - sunny, temperature in the low 70's and light breeze!  I think we're ready for the Pig!  22 days to go....

04/24/10:  One week to go!  Registration confirmed by e-mail yesterday (Bib Number -  2653).

05/02/10:  We finished the Flying Pig Marathon!  Heavy rains and wind throughout the race, but overall a great day!  4:29 time ( a "middle of the pack" guy) - but just happy to have been able to train for it and finsh the race!
