Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page. Mom and I both have Fibromuscular Dysplasia or FMD, an underdiagnosed vascular disease which can affect any arterial bed in the body. We inherited ours from my maternal grandmother who had high blood pressure . Mom and I both have FMD in our carotid arteries and brain, and the stenosis resulting from this condition (the string of beads due to the malformation of our carotids) puts us at a higher risk for strokes, aneurysms, and other medical issues. I was diagnosed in 2004 and Mom soon thereafter.
FMDSA has been EXTREMELY successful at raising awareness of this disease through education, FMD clinics, registries and programs throughout the US and the world. FMD is underdiagnosed and may be as prevalent as breast cancer. FMD affects men, women and children of all backgrounds. In children, they present with high blood pressure and possibly migraines.
There is no known cure for this disease, however treatments are available such as blood thinners, and avoiding certain triggers that could dissect our already compromised arteries.
For more information on this disease please visit our web site at www.fmdsa.org.
We are getting more information from these registries from the US and around the world and your donation will ensure future generations will get much needed answers to the etiology of this disease and/or provide answers to cause, prevention and a cure.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Thank you so much for your support and please pass this onto anyone you know of who might be interested in supporting this wonderful organization.
