Every year, between six to eight million dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters; three to four million of these animals are euthanized because there are not enough homes for them.
You might think that these are animals born in the streets or there is something "wrong" with them. But more often they are the offspring of cherished family pets, even purebreds. Maybe someone's dog or cat got out just that one time or maybe the litter was intentional, but efforts to find enough good homes failed. Still, the result is homeless animals that have to be euthanized because there are more dogs and cats entering shelters than there are
people willing to provide them with loving care.
Karma Rescue was founded in 2003 and has rescued, rehabilitated and placed over 1,000 dogs from the shelter system. In addition to rescuing and rehoming dogs, Karma has launched a number of programs in response to the crisis of pet overpopulation including:
School & Library Program where we go into schools and educate youth about Animal Rescue, Adoption vs. acquiring animals from breeders, Spay/Neuter and Volunteering. We also touch on more serious issues like Dog Fighting, Dog Tethering, and Dog Abuse. The kids are very moved by what is presented. They connect with the stories we share. They ask how to change the way things are and to make them better. (

Spay/Neuter Programs are set-up in low-income areas to provide spaying/neutering free of charge. At some of the clinics we see close to 100 dogs a day!
The Cody Fund was established to care for and rehabilitate those dogs with special needs or that require intense medical care whether it is the result of neglect, abuse or congenital issues. Often times these dogs are immediately euthanized at shelters because there are not enough funds to cover their care. (
