Rosemarie Napolitano's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Thank you to everyone that sponsored our team for the CBTF Stride 4 Life 5K which Team Ricky Knight ran on September 13, 2009. We had about 65 people running and walking - all wearing orange or green bandanas and sporting a beautiful picture of Ricky pinned to their backs. Check out the pictures - just click on any picture below!!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support.
Ricky Knight waged a heroic battle against the brain tumor that struck him when he was just 11 years old. He was a healthy, athletic, intelligent boy in fifth grade when he first began experiencing head aches and then seizures. He loved his family, his friends and sports - especially football, basketball and baseball. He was diagnosed with a Grade 4, glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor on April 28, 2007.
During his 13 month battle, Ricky underwent 3 brain surgeries, 6 weeks of daily radiation and three different types of chemotherapy. Through it all, Ricky continued to thrive, even playing baseball and football. He was an unbelievable spirit that could not be conquered even when his body could not fight the growing cancer.
Glioblastoma Multiforme is a vicious disease that is seen most often in adults. There is no cure. Much of the research into possible treatments focuses on adults and does not carry over to pediatric patients. Doctors do not know what causes these tumors and with so few children diagnosed there is not alot of funding available for research. Please consider donating to Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation to fund research that can help save other children's lives.
Ricky participated in 3 clinical trials. One of those was funded by the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation and gave Ricky the remission that allowed him one final season of football.
