Rosemary Galinski's Page
Hi Everyone,
My name is Rosemary Galinski, and I am currently a freshman studying pre-med at Penn State University. Simply Smiles is an organization that has greatly influenced me these past two years. During the beginning of the summer of 2010 I took a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico with my Spanish class through Simply Smiles. During my trip I got to work at Simply Smiles center of operations, help in Casa Hogar (a local orphanage), and visit a garbage dump, a place where human beings actually live.
Throughout my whole experience in Oaxaca, the garbage dump had the biggest impact on me. It made me realize how much we take things for granted; we think nothing of the places we are fortunate enough to live in. Oaxaca passed a law that all people going into the heaps of trash had to be equipped with masks and gloves, the people who live in the dump are exceptions to this law. After what I saw I was motivated to get masks and gloves for these people. My senior year of high school I centered part of my senior project around the organization Simply Smiles. I wrote letters to local businesses, talked to store managers, and held a bake sale to help find support for those who live in the garbage dump. It was because of this that I have supplied these people with masks and gloves for 6 months (150 pairs of gloves, and 750 masks). It just comes to show that if you are determined you can make a difference.
Ultimatly, Simply Smiles is an organization that I want to show continuous support for. My ideal summer vacation experience would be to have the opportunity to return to Oaxaca and continue to volunteer and make a difference. If you could help me with my quest to return to Oaxaca, and raise money for the best nonprofit organization out there it would be appreciated beyond belief.
Many thanks for your support
and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
