This coming year I will be a Corps Member in the AVODAH New Orleans house. I have wanted to return to New Orleans ever since I participated in an Alternative Spring Break trip my junior year of college. On that trip I helped rebuild homes with 200+ Jewish students from around the country. Meeting the home owners and hearing their stories was one of the most memorable parts of my trip.
This is why I am so happy to have the opportunity to be the Intake Assistant at Rebuilding Together New Orleans, the largest home rehabilitation non-profit organization in New Orleans this coming year. I will be helping homeowners through the application system so they can receive assistance and finally get their homes rebuilt.
I am also very excited to live in a house with nine other likeminded Jews from around the country and Canada. AVODAH provides programing where I will study the connection between social activism and Jewish life.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow and figure out what direction I want to go in the future. I'm thankful a program like AVODAH exists.
