"Tennis Begins with Love": Guinness World Records™ Longest Tennis Rally - a True Story
Last year, my identical twin brother, Angelo, and I broke the Guinness World Record™ for the longest tennis rally to benefit charity. The feat took 14 hours and 31 minutes to hit 25,944 consecutive strokes of the same ball without a miss.
Now we need your help to accomplish a more significant goal: our pledge to raise $25,944 for charity. If you have already donated, thank you so much!
The record balls were recently enshrined in the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI and the exhibit will be on display starting this month (see Flickr photos below).
The record will be included on page 257 of the 2010 edition of the Guinness World Records™ book coming out on September 17, 2009.
We created a YouTube movie to commemorate the event and received permission from DreamWorks Pictures to use the soundtrack from the film Gladiator.
We have secured a $1M prize as an incentive for anyone who breaks the GWR longest tennis rally record on August 15, 2009 as a charity event.
Our symbolic goal was to hit more than 25,000 consecutive strokes without missing in one day to create awareness for the more than 25,000 children under 5 who die from preventable or treatable causes every day. We failed at our first attempt after 2,745 strokes in 1 hour and 32 minutes. We failed at our second attempt after 19,490 strokes in 10 hours and 38 minutes. But then – after 14 hours and 31 minutes – we succeeded at our third attempt of 25,944 strokes. Lesson learned: the secret to success is failure (and learning from it) – a lesson that took 26 hours, 41 minutes and 48,179 strokes to learn!
