HI Everyone!
I know, I know this stuff can be so tedious! Even so, Please take a few minutes to check out my page and then consider donating to a very worthy cause.
In June of 2007 I was hired as an event coordinator for the NW Chapter of HDSA. The position was given to me on "good faith" by Liz Weber. Liz is the president of NW HDSA , I became acquainted with her during the 2006 Pearl Jam tour. I was invited to do a job on a few legs of the tour , she was along to support her husband, Stone.
At that time, I didn't know much about Huntington's Disease, but was very grateful to be given an opportunity in a field in which I had no previous experience,
Over The past two years, I have been fortunate to attend two national conventions, participate in several educational events as well as get to know some courageous and amazing people. I could not help but become passionate about raising awareness and funds to help those that are affected on a daily basis by this devastating brain disorder.
On October 3rd 2009, at Capital Lake Park in Oly, WA , the NW Chapter will host the 3rd annual walk-a-thon. In addition to the walk, we will be raffling and auctioning some very cool prizes, Items by K2 including, a snowboard, inline skates, Also several themed gift baskets and tons of other great stuff!
Funds raised from this event go toward supporting our three-part mission of family services, research, and education and advocacy for Huntington’s Disease.
Huntington’s Disease (HD) is a hereditary degenerative brain disorder that slowly robs the affected individual of the ability to walk, talk and reason. Every person of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the gene, and every person who inherits the mutant gene will eventually develop the fatal disease.
Although HD does not receive the same level of exposure to the public as other neurological diseases, breakthroughs in HD research benefit the research of other diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, and MS.
Through your generosity, the Huntington’s Disease Society of America is able to become one step closer to a HD free future! Please visit www.HDSA.org for more information.
