Ski Crossing of Greenland

Ski Crossing of Greenland

Ski Crossing of Greenland

Thank you for visiting my first giving page. As a part of my expedition I hope to raise 10 dollars for every mile of the journey, a total of 3,420 dollars, for Doctors Without Borders.

About my Expedition

In April 2012, I will join a team of about six people to ski across the second largest icecap in the world in Greenland. This will be an unsupported, unassisted ski crossing from east to west, a distance of about 342 miles. I will be dragging a sled carrying all the supplies I need to survive for just under a month. The goals of my expedition are to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders, to prepare for future expeditions to the North and South Poles and to progress one step closer to self discovery.

I will be documenting every day of this expedition on my blog:

About Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, natural disasters, or exclusion from health care in nearly 60 countries.

On any one day, close to 27,000 doctors, nurses, logisticians, water-and-sanitation experts, administrators, and other qualified professionals can be found providing medical care in international teams made up of local MSF aid workers and their colleagues from around the world.

You can read more about this amazing organization here:

In the book "An Imperfect Offering," by former president of Doctors Without Borders, Dr. James Orbinski, a friend and colleague of his, Dr. Jonathan Brock, wrote this about why he was drawn to the organization:

"We suture, we record the events, we tell the world. We struggle daily with private thoughts of whether or not we make a difference. The ultimate solution may be political, anonymous and nebulous, in some remote teak conference room. But I have seen the blood, the people cry in pain and the people laugh with hope. And I know we need to be there."

Please help me support this organization and the people within it. They work not just for those who suffer in the darkest recesses of the planet, they work for all of humanity.

Please do forward this to your friends and family as well.

Thank you,
Akshay Nanavati
