A big thank you to everyone who supported me and the Brattle Theatre by pledging the Brattle Theatre 2011 Watch-a-thon!!! The Brattle is a non-profit organization that depends on donations and volunteers to keep its program of independent films and cultural events alive and well.
I was able to push myself to see 10 movies in 14 days (7 at the Brattle Theatre and 3 at the Harvard Film Archive). You might think that sitting in a dark theater is a cushy job (especially a theater that serves draft beer), but its not easy. Not easy at all... I'm participating in the Brattle Theatre's Watch-A-Thon 2011 Fund Raiser raise money for the Brattle Film Foundation.
The Brattle Film Foundation is the 501(c)3 non-profit organization which programs and operates the Brattle Theatre. The Brattle Theatre has been a cinematic landmark for over 50 years, and continues to engage the Boston community with the finest in art, independent, classic and world cinema through its unique repertory film programming. In addition, the Brattle Theare hosts a year-round series of cultural events including concerts and readings.
During the Watch-A-Thon, I am asking friends/family/co-workers to pledge any amount they wish for each film that I will watch at the Brattle between August 1 and August 14. Any movies I see at a theater besides the Brattle only count as one-half of a movie. My personal goal is to see 8 movies in two weeks, but if you really push me I might see more! You can also make a flat donation if you are worried I might go nuts and spend all week at the theater.
