2,011 miles in 2011 - $1 sponsors one mile! Donate today!
Did you know 1 in every 9 children will lose a parent before they turn 20?
I do. I am one of the 1. My Dad, Donald Knapp, died of Brain Cancer and Kidney Failure on August 2, 1998. I was only 14 years old.
There are thousands of children like me who have lost a loved one and sadly thousands more will become one of us this year.
How I am raising money in 2012.
Last year thanks to your generous support I was able to raise more than $2,000 for Comfort Zone Camp.
This year, I want to raise more than $2,012 through my fundraising efforts.
How can you help?
For every $1 you donate, you sponsor me for one mile. Every $500 sends one child to camp this year.
Trust me, we need it more than you know.
What do we know about childhood bereavement?
There is a lot to be learned about childhood bereavement, but a recent study showed:
- 72% of adults who experienced loss as a child believe their life would have been “much better” if their parent hadn’t died so young.
- Six out of 10 say "losing a parent as a kid was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with"
- Nine out of 10 say this is the 'worst thing' that has ever happened to them.
- Approx. one out of every 20 children in the United States will experience the death of one or both parents before the age of 15.
