Ryan O'Donnell's Fundraising Page
Hello my friends,
Over the past two years, I have been trying to make running an integral part of my life. I've run two half marathons, for my own stress release and fitness. On November 15, 2009, I will be running the Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Half Marathon for a different reason. I will be running to raise money for the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA).
Huntington's Disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects every aspect of the patient and their family's lives. The symptoms begin mentally and psychologically, dragging the patient through manic episodes and depression. Further along, mental symptoms affect the patient's reasoning and lead to dementia. Early physical symptoms of HD include problems walking, flailing and jerking movements, difficulties swallowing/eating, and hyperactivity. These physical symptoms eventually wear away the muscles until the patient is confined to a wheelchair, forcing them to become completely dependent on others. HDSA is the leading organization that supports Huntington's research and provides families and patients with care.
Our family has been heavily affected by HD over many generations. My grandmother and her two sisters have been taken by the disease. Presently, my mother, aunt, and two uncles have all been diagnosed. Help us put a stop to it now.
My fundraising target is $2000. Please consider donating any amount you can to help HDSA in trying to find a cure for HD. Any amount donated is extremely appreciated and will go a long way.
Thank you very much for your time.
Best,
Ryan O'Donnell
