Ryan and Doug prepare for AIDS Walk 2009
Once again, we are rasing money for AIDS WALK. Last year AIDS WALK in Kansas City raised over $500,000 for people right here in Kansas City who are living with HIV and AIDS. With your help, last year we raised over $1,800 and our team cleared $5,000!!
However, it is 2009 and everything in our lives is bigger and better, which means our goal has increased. But each year we add to our goal our amazing family, friends and colleagues have stepped up and help us reach it!!
The AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City is an amazing organization that truly takes 100% of the money they raise and put it back out into the community through the various AIDS Service Organizations that they support.
About a year ago, Ryan co-founded and became one of the advisors for the Millennial League, an advisory group to the AIDS Service Foundation. This group focuses on 20 to 30 year olds educating each other about HIV and AIDS. The numbers are not good, they are increasing and at rates that would make anyone do a double take. HIV and AIDS does not have to be a right of passage for young gay men and it does not have to be an epidemic in our communities of color.
We completely have the power to erradicate this disease within our lifetimes, but that is going to take a lot of education and research. Thank you for helping us make a difference in Kansas City!!
