In Africa, an entire generation is dying. Mothers. Fathers. Teachers. Farmers. Even pastors. Working men and women. Dead.
15 million children have been orphaned due to AIDS (That's around the same as the total number of high school students in the U.S.)
6,000 people die everyday of the disease.
In 2005 more than 2.8 million people died becuase because of AIDS - That's equal to a plague killing off the entire population of Chicago
Every day more than 29,000 children die, mostly due to preventable/treatable diseases and lack of clean water
But this is not a hopeless situation. Not if people like us are willing to stand up and use their One Life to Do Something about it.
I have decided to do something about it. Many of you know this is my last year of basketball on my highschool team. As I play my heart out at every game, I will be dedicating my efforts to raising awareness and money for communities in Africa through Team World Vision. We spend so many countless hours at practice, exerting all that effort... while children in Africa sometimes don't even have the strength to walk. We drink an average of 40 water bottles during every practice... while thousands of people die everyday because they don't have access to clean water or walk many miles everyday to reach clean water. Over the coming months I am going to ask everyone I know to support my efforts by donating to World Vision (an organization that is leading the charge in helping communities impacted by HIV and AIDS) and even encourage my team mates to get involved. As a captain on the team, this is going to be a great chance for me to set a good example for others, and to do something beyond myself. There are two simple ways that you can support my efforts.
1) Click here to sponsor a child for $35 per month
