This is BIG!

I mean really big.

Life is about challenging yourself to grow. In this spirit I have committed to racing my first half IronMan triathlon in Lake Stevens WA this coming August 14th (my wedding anniversary for those keeping score…) This is a big undertaking, even for me. I’ve been racing for several years here in western Washington and last year got serious about doing triathlons. I raced 3 sprint / olympic distance events. So this year, I am upping the goal a bit by entering a half Ironman. This means I’ll be swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles then running 13.1. Quite a challenge for a second year triathlete.

Thats not even the Big part.

Last year our family lost a really big Man. Larry Tuor, my father in law, passed away on Jan 22 from Scleroderma. He’d been fighting, really hard for a couple years this rare, little known ailment. It was really hard for him and he sacrificed a lot during his fight. Our whole family lost something when he passed. SO (as I fight back the tears), in memory of him and his strength and determination of will I have decided to race for him and for the Scleroderma Foundation. They help raise awareness and funds for research and advocacy. This is not like breast cancer, which I am directly familiar with as well (my mother is a survivor). Breast cancer has advocacy groups and events for raising funds, Scleroderma does not and so, this time it’s for Larry.
