Students at Salem Academy Charter School have the opportunity to travel to New Orleans as a member of a service brigade. Each year, a group from our school spends a week in New Orleans volunteering through a local non-profit organization, United Saints Recovery Project. Our primary work is rehabilitating homes of economically disadvantaged families.
United Saints Recovery Project helps to revitalize economically distressed neighborhoods afflicted by blight and disaster. The mission of the United Saints Recovery Project is to assist communities that have suffered damage from natural disasters, helping residents return home, improve their quality of life and strengthen their communities. With the help of local, national, and international volunteers, the organization assists homeowners in rehabilitating and rebuilding their homes, while engaging those homeowners in their effort to promote volunteerism within the community.
Formed in 2007 in New Orleans, the United Saints was born out of a need for assistance following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans with a devastating blow, one from which the city is still recovering. The housing needs of many residents, especially in the poorer neighborhoods, remain unmet. United Saints’ mission is to build and repair houses, helping to facilitate emotional healing. By providing economically disadvantaged residents with resources and encouragement, we can restore a sense of community pride. United Saints Recovery Project has several long-term, ongoing projects with community organizations, as well as larger-scale home repair projects.

Your gift of $850.00 would finance the whole trip (air fare, land transportation, activities, food and lodging) for one Salem Academy student
Your gift of $415 would finance food and lodging for one Salem Academy student.
Your gift of $350 would finance one student’s airfare.
Any donation would help a student complete the cost of his/her trip or go towards a scholarship fund to assist students who need help meeting the cost of their trip.
Checks should be made out to Salem Academy Charter School. Please indicate New Orleans Trip on the check, and the name of the student you’d like to sponsor, if you’re sponsoring a specific student.
