Several months ago I heard about a charity called Merlin through our friends Helen and Peter Sole.  Merlin's goal is to help build sustainable health care systems after natural disaster or conflict. Our friends visited Liberia this summer and saw first hand the miracles that Merlin facilitates every day, you can read about their trip on Helen's blog:

Maternal health is a priority right now with a mother dying every minute from pregnancy-related causes.  75% of these lives could be saved if there was access to a trained midwife and emergency obstetric care. You can learn more about the Hands Up for Health Care Workers campaign here:

With a team of friends, I am running a 10K race in Washington in October and I need your support to help save mothers and babies in the most dangerous places to live on the planet. Not being much of a runner, I have my work cut out for me!

I am going to raise $2500 to train a midwife for Merlin

Any amount you give will make a difference:

$2 will vaccinate a child against measles

$10 will provide a stethoscope to monitor an unborn child's heartbeat

$150 will feed 5 malnourished children for a month

$200 with provide birthing kits for a community midwife to deliver 10 babies
