Help Save Cookie
In October, Cookie had run out of time at a local shelter. Somehow this gorgeous, fluffy, black and white man with loads of personality had not been adopted. A volunteer took a shot and contacted Black Cat Rescue.
Cookie faces some adoption challenges and has been with us for several months. Recently, he became quite ill and required emergency care at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center of New England. At the time he was admitted, he was febrile, anemic and jaundiced. Cookie became so weak that it was not safe to do some of the diagnostic procedures required to find out what was making him so sick! At one point, we truly thought this gentle giant was slipping away.
However, Cookie rallied! He responded well to antibiotics, and his demeanor and appetite improved. After a harrowing few days in the kitty hospital, Cookie is on the mend. His official diagnosis is a blood parasite, mycoplasma (hemobartonella), and he is being treated with four weeks of antibiotics. He still requires additional blood tests to verify that he is recovering from the parasite.
In the midst of the wonderful news of Cookie's recovery, Black Cat Rescue is also dealing with quite a challenge. Cookie's veterinary bills have totaled almost $3,000, and we are not done yet!
If anyone deserves a second chance and the care necessary to make that happen, it's Cookie. He is such a wonderful boy with an amazing personality. Cookie loves to cuddle and rolls on his back to show off his tummy. Cookie is happy to be picked up and snuggled. He gets along well with other animals, both cats and dogs. This sweet boy even managed to charm the staff at VESCONE while he wasn't feeling his best! He's a trooper! Please help us continue his care by making a donation to our cause!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
