Update 5/28

I finished the half marathon last Sunday and I want to thank everyone again for donating to my page! My time was right around 2 hours and 40 minutes and my feet are killing me! It was worth it and your donations meant a lot to me and the Hero Initiative. Thanks again!

 

Update 4/22

Thanks to everyone that has donated and helped me hit my goal! Even though I've already worn the dress I'm still raising money! The race happens in just under a month now so give a little more if you can to keep me motivated! Also, don't forget that if I can hit $1100 everyone that donated $50 or more will get an autographed 8x10 glossy photo of me that you can hang in your home or place of business.

UPDATE: 3/31 

I sent out a foolish email  to my colleagues here at Firstgiving which included the following:

For some reason certain Firstgiving employees (Charlotte) have become obsessed with the idea of me wearing a dress. If I hit my goal of $750 by the end of March I’ll find the prettiest greenpurple dress around and wear it in the office!  

Thanks to all of you guys I'm well on my way to being a pretty, pretty Firstgiving princess! But I don't want to stop at $750! If I can raise a few hundred more dollars and make it to $1100, not only will I wear the dress to the office but I will also send autographed 8x10 glamour shots of me in the dress to everyone that donates $50 or more to my page. Who wants a glamour shot? 

 

Hello Friends,

Did you know that a half-marathon is a 13 and 7/64 mile race and that I'm running in one? It's true! Did you also know that 13 and 7/64 miles is 13 miles more than I've ever run in my life? That’s not true BUT I will be participating in the Run to Remember Half Marathon on May 24, 2009! You can check it out here.

This is going to be pretty tough for me because my favorite ways to pass the time are eating, reading comic books and moving as little as possible, but it’s all worth it!

I grew up reading comic books throughout the 1990's when creators were being paid fairly for their work as well as given royalties and ownership rights to their creations. The Golden and Silver Age creators of the 1930's through the 1970's were not as lucky.

The characters and stories created by many early comic book writers and artists laid the foundations for huge fictional universes as well as kick starting a multi-billion dollar industry. Sadly, they were often paid very little for their work ($5 a page for artists and 1 penny per word for writers) and the ownership of their creations went directly to the companies they worked for. No royalty money. No money from merchandise like the Spiderman action figures I played with as a child or the Superman long underwear that I wear everywhere.  I mean wore everywhere… when I was a child… I’m a grown man, I don’t wear Batman underwear! Anyway…

Luckily, the Hero Initiative is here to offer financial aid to these elderly creators for medical and housing assistance and to help them get back into paying work so they can live a dignified and healthy life.
