Our names are Mike, Kezia and Saoirse Fitzgerald and we are a family battling two types of cancer: My wife, Kezia who is 26 years old was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January of 2011. Our daughter Saoirse (pronounced “seer-sha”) now 17months old, was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma High Risk when she was 11 months old. Our lives have been turned upside down twice in just a few months.  I am no longer able to work, and haven't been in months due to multiple doctor appointments and the unknown trips to the Children's Boston Hospital. Most of Kezia’s chemo is done on an out patient basis every 2 weeks. Her past few treatments have really depleted her energy, however she is a very strong person and is fighting very hard. Our daughter’s chemo is mostly done inpatient at Children’s Hospital Boston and The Jimmy Fund in Boston. Her treatments are either a 5 or 3 day regiment and additionally there are the weekly clinic visits to the Jimmy Fund in Boston. With parking, gas, missing work and a mortgage, it has taken an extreme financial toll on our family and we struggle week to week. The bottom line is that we need help. Kezia writes a blog that our friends, family and the world can read to keep up to date on how everyone is doing. It is about sharing our story to raise awareness about our diseases, but more importantly to show how a positive attitude can turn even the most difficult situations into life as usual.
