Fred Waddles to Save the Hounds - Aftershocks Felt Nationwide!
Fred (aka Frank the Tank), a big slobbery 70-pound blob of bassety love, is on the move! What has motivated this near-comatose hound to interrupt his strict 20 hours of sleep per day policy? Saving the lives of hounds in need!
Fred knows all-too-well the staggering number of hounds that end up in kill shelters each year. Frightened, confused, and alone, these innocent hounds die solely for the lack of a loving, protecting human companion. Fred has first-hand knowledge of this sad truth - he is just one of over 260 basset hounds rescued from area shelters by Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas.
Locked up in a cold cement cell on Animal Control’s death row, poor Fred was a sickly, downtrodden boy who no one ever came to claim. It was obvious he had not received appropriate care for quite some time as he had a number of different infections - skin, eyes, and ears - along with severe heartworm disease. His tail had clearly been broken; scars covering his jaw indicated that he had suffered significant past injury. Worst of all, his time in the shelter had run out and this sweet boy’s life was scheduled to end. Thankfully, Basset Buddies came to his rescue, pulling Fred from doggy death row and placing him in a loving foster home. Each of Fred’s illnesses and injuries was evaluated and treated by a community veterinarian, all at the expense of Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas. Several weeks and hundreds of dollars later, Fred’s health was restored and he was adopted by yours truly. Since that day, Fred has lived a life filled with love, snuggles, and a seemingly endless supply of fluffy pillows, couch cushions, and beds on which he may hibernate. His fellow homeless hounds deserve nothing less than the same; however, Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas must raise funds in order to continue saving lives.
Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas will be holding a Waddle on March 15, 2009. A Waddle is similar to a walk-a-thon, the difference being that the participants are short-legged, drool-slinging hound dogs! Prior to waddling down the nearly 3 mile route, each basset hound collects pledges/donations for each mile waddled. All money raised goes into the rescue’s medical care fund where it will make it possible to save countless other lives.
In the interest of saving other homeless hounds, Fred now prepares to face his biggest fear: physical activity! He will be completing the nearly 3 mile Waddle route, but desperately needs sponsors to realize his goal! Please consider sponsoring his 3 mile trek - $5, $10, $20 per mile….anything you can afford will truly make a difference in saving other hounds in need.
Waddle Day is rapidly approaching! Please support Fred in his fundraising efforts and make this slow-moving, tubby little fella’s dreams come true!
DISCLAIMER: Fred reserves the right to, at any point in the Waddle, lay down in the middle of the road and go into "speedbump mode". His reasons for this (assuming he has any) may include but are not limited to: boredom, fatigue, apathy, obstinance, or an overwhelming need to lick any/all accessible areas of his anatomy. Should this occur, Fred will complete the Waddle in his red Radio Flyer wagon, towed by his "trainers". Yeah, it's Fred's world...
