Sara Runs for Africa!!
Help Sara run for Africa! The African Well Fund builds wells in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is overseen by Africare and was started by U2 fans inspired by Bono’s charity work with Africa. Your pledges go directly to building wells in Gokwe South, Zimbabwe. These wells will improve living conditions dramatically for 2000 people! Sara will run in the Marine Corp Marathon (26.2 miles!) in D.C. in October. She has been desperate to find a way to make a difference in the lives of African people, and while her plans include volunteer work in Sub-Saharan Africa, providing clean water, the beginning to any sustainable culture, is something she can contribute to here and now.
Some women have to walk for 8 hours just to get clean water! Sara feels the least she can do is try to run for 4.
Each flush of the toilet uses the same amount of water that one person in the Third World uses all day for washing, cleaning, cooking and drinking (www.whrnet.org).
The weight of water that women in Asia and Africa carry on their heads is equivalent to the maximum baggage weight allowed by airlines – 20 kg, or 44lbs (www.whrnet.org)
