I'm taking part in the Eighth Annual "Stepping Out For A Cure" Walk to raise money for Scleroderma Foundation. You can donate online with a credit card. All donations are secure and sent directly to Scleroderma Foundation - Greater Chicago Chapter by Firstgiving, who will email you a printable record of your donation. : http://www.firstgiving.com/saracampbell1
It's almost one year since I was diagnosed with diffuse systemic scleroderma. It's a pretty rare disease affecting around 300,000 in the US at any given time. There is no known cure for this progressive auto immune disease which causes hardening of the skin and also can harden the internal organs (heart, kidney and lungs). My cells are still overproducing that collagen; so no new wrinkles to report. Who would think I'd be excited for wrinkles?! Reynaud's has kicked in high gear. Simple things like cutting mushrooms can set it off for hours. Who needs a rainbow - my fingers turn white, red and blue - how patriotic? And I must admit this year I think I do have the nicest collection of UGG's. Thankfully, I've been able to keep my condition in check; lungs and esophagus aren't quite what they used to be - but neither is that old gray mare.
Through research, hopefully people won’t have to go through some of the things I’ve been experiencing. Any type of donation to further research for this debilitating disease would be greatly appreciated.
The walk will be in Highland Park on Sunday, June 27th. There is a one or a three mile walk. If you are able, please join the walk and register for my team. I truly appreciate any support and hope you can walk with me.
Please forward this to anyone who you think might want to walk or donate.
Thanks,
Sara
