Sarah Conway's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am planning to run - (okay, maybe partially walk) - the Great Bay Half Marathon on April 11 to support the many children and families dealing with autism.
For Jake’s Sake is a new non-profit founded by Dawn Cobak, who is a friend and advocate for all children with autism, not to mention a warrior and inspiration to all the parents. We raise money to help families pay for the therapies autistic children desperately need. The therapies help with things everyday parents and children often take for granted - from how to approach kids on the playground, kick a ball, squeeze play-dough, do puzzles - to toilet training (at all ages), saying hello, or saying anything - even to mom and dad.
For Jake's Sake raised nearly $10,000 last year and almost all the money went directly to families in need to fund social skills camps and groups, behavior therapy, and occupational and physical therapy. Sadly insurance and school cut-backs, coupled with our everyday economic pressures, mean families often can't even keep up with co-pays. This is why I'm running and asking for your help.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. I can't thank you enough for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
-Autism is a brain development disorder characterized by impaired social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior.
--New research from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows 1 out of every 91 children in the U.S. is autistic.
-This makes it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined!
-Boys are four times as likely as girls to have autism.
