I guess you are wondering I would take the time to create this page and send it out to you?  I have loved ones who have been impacted by the disease via hemophilia (blood transfusion in the 80s), via drug use, via sexual activity in both America and Mozambique where I lived as a little girl.  I have lost too many creative, loving, important people to this disease, and the hard truth is that I will lose more who I love dearly. We are making great strides in medical research, but the social stigma and the health struggles persists.  

While money can't solve every problem, it can:

• help us ensure that people in my community who need the antiretrovirals get them so they can live normal and productive lives for as long as possible
• connect our clients with the local services that they have available to them, and cut through the red tape that can be too much for individual who needs help to do alone
• help us house those who would otherwise be homeless in one of our 29 apartments since the shelters in this area will not accept HIV positive people
• feed those families whose food stamp allocation will not meet their family needs
• offer support groups for those infected, and those impacted by the disease to help them live with dignity and hope
• help the clients who can work, find jobs that give them back their dignity and allow them to contribute back to the community
• be the one place that they can reliably turn to for assistance, guidance and compassion

As you can see, AIDS Athens is a crucial organization for our community that exists to enhance and enrich the quality of life for those living with HIV/AIDS, as well as their friends, families, and partners. The organization serves over 300 clients and 95% of them fall below the poverty line. They also work very hard with limited funding to provide free HIV testing and spread the message of prevention throughout the community. All donations made to AIDS Athens are 100% tax deductible.
