In three short months I will be scaling 11 miles of the Northstar resort in Lake Tahoe, CA to complete my first ToughMudder. For those of you who haven't heard of Tough Mudder, it is an obstacle course designed to test physical endurance and stamina; a race that, as a practical matter, requires teamwork, agility and a temporary suspension of your fight or flight instincts. I am not kidding!!! www.toughmudder.com I am joining several of my colleagues from Pfizer who keep me sane every day to tackle this insane feat and a few of their friends and significant others.
I am very excited to take part in this Tough Mudder! The last organized race I was a part of was the 2003 Chicago Marathon. My life (love, marriage, children, home, family and work) has been busy since and I miss the fun of training and competing.
I have decided to use this race as a chance to raise awareness and hopefully contributions for an organization you have all heard of, but perhaps never contributed to, the American Red Cross. www.redcross.org The Red Cross does more than just collect blood (although they do that quite well...fingers crossed I will not need any after this race ;) and I am hoping that even if this letter doesn't prompt you to act right now you consider the Red Cross next time you make a charitable donation. My personal goal is to complete ToughMudder Northstar without injury! And to raise at least $500 for ARC.
I will send out an update in August, after The Avengers (aka Beth, Jen, Linda, and I) complete our last team training run and I have a better tally of any donations.
Thanks for your time and attention.
Sarah (aka the Hulk)
