After showing signs of Lupus since my teens, finally in 1996 I was diagnosed with SLE (aka Lupus). Every day is a struggle, a challenge, and an accomplishment. While I pray for a cure every day, I refuse to let this awful disease get me down or stop me from living life. Every day, every dollar, they are learning more and more about Lupus, how to manage the pain, and hopefully how to cure it.
Lupus shows me every day just how strong I am. As I struggle to get up in the morning and go to bed at night, at the end of the day I can say "take that Lupus! You did not get the best of me today!" My disease is an open book...I look at my having Lupus as a tool to open up communication and learning of acceptance and tolerance as well as to show people that a disability does not have to keep you down.
On a crisp September morning, Mom, Dad, Chris, Jessica, Savannah, Cebolla, and I will be walking (limping, crawling, or rolling - depending on how I feel that morning) in this walk to help bring awareness and support the research that will help so many.
